Y murió en Lisboa el 30 de noviembre de 1935, de cirrosis.
Él mismo se reconocía bebedor de tabernas baratas.

Vivió unos años de su infancia en Durban, Sudáfrica, donde su padrastro era cónsul.
Fernando Pessoa fue bilingüe, en inglés escribió sus primeros trabajos.
